Panama: The Canal, Highlands & Islands Cancelled

February 14 – 21

PanamaPanama is a marvel — a country of relatively small size but with a wealth of natural assets. It boasts a stunning landscape and vibrant wildlife, as well as a rich cultural heritage.

Your first stop will be to explore the town of Gamboa and the Soberania National Park. The walk provides excellent access to primary rainforests, with impressive examples of the Kapok tree, royal palms, and wild plum. It’s also home to 525 species of birds and 105 species of mammals, including the three-toed sloth, monkeys, and large felines.

Next it is on to Metropolitan Nature Park, historic Panama City, Baru Volcano National Park, and the Chagres River.

PanamaDays are filled with spectacular walks in varied ecosystems — home to 960 indigenous bird species. You will traverse the famed Panama Canal waters looking for Red-naped Tamarins, take invigorating walks in cloudforests searching for the elusive quetzal, and explore the underwater world of the Caribbean Sea in all its teeming brilliance. A rainforest resort, a highland lodge, and a boutique seaside inn highlight each region’s beauty and enhance your experience on and off the trail. Fresh tropical produce and cultural flair are blended in meals topped off with some of the world’s best coffee.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask advice from Todd Shapera ’79 as you capture your own photo memories.

Price: from $3,100 per person, double occupancy
