Dalmatian Coast: Cruising the Adriatic
September 1 – 9
Explore the cultural and natural treasures of Venice and Croatia’s island-dotted coast line.
Spend a full day experiencing the unrivaled cultural and artistic treasures of Venice, the romantic port city that once ruled the Adriatic Sea. You will visit Piazza San Marco and the Doges’ Palace.
Then sail across the Adriatic to explore Dalmatia’s ruggedly beautiful shoreline. Rarely visited by American travelers, the Dalmatian Coast offers an unmatched collection of Roman ruins, medieval towns, stunning rivieras, and idyllic islands. Walk in the footsteps of emperors and gladiators in the great Roman Arena in Pula; stroll through Diocletian’s legendary palace in Split; discover the ancient port of Hvar; explore the Romanesque and Gothic quarters of Dubrovnik. Continue with a cruise through the secluded waters of Mljet National Park and a tour of the walled city of Korcula before concluding with the splendid medieval churches of Zadar.
Throughout the program, your enjoyment and understanding of the region’s fascinating history and culture will be enhanced through special programs. A former UNESCO conservationist will talk about Venice’s restoration efforts and a representative from the Institute for the Reconstruction of Dubrovnik will lecture about that city’s progress. You also will enjoy a folklore performance of a traditional Croatian vocal ensemble and specially arranged wine tasting at a vineyard near Korcula. A special two-night Venice Pre-Program Option is also offered.
Price: from $3,295 per person, double occupancy
