Savannah and the Low Country:
Gardens, Museums, Artist Studios, and Private Homes

November 13 – 17

Savannah GeorgiaGenteel and welcoming, the one-of-a-kind coastal city of Savannah is without question one of America's greatest historic gems. Boasting the country's largest historic district, a magnificent culinary heritage, and a proudly eclectic local populace, Savannah has mesmerized generations of visitors. Strolling under live oak trees past gracious mansions and cheerful fountains, it is easy to be transported away from everyday cares and to live life a bit more slowly.

The Alumnae & Alumni of Vassar College (AAVC) is proud to join with the Alumnae Association of Smith College in offering this specially designed long weekend getaway to the Savannah area. Offered from November 13-17, when temperatures in the low 70s promise a welcome respite from the bleak early winter, our journey is designed to take you beyond touristic Savannah by arranging meetings with a fascinating array of local people in their private domains: a famous local artist and author in his 1858 mansion, a contemporary gallery owner in his contemporary loft, and a gardener in her beautiful, green oasis. Tours by curators and local historians will provide special insight. Special touches like a privately chartered river cruise and dinners at award-winning restaurants, promise to make the tour a worthwhile escape.

Savannah GeorgiaHighlights of the tour include the new Jepson Center, a private morning opening of the beautiful Davenport House, and excursions to two nearby treasures: the Gilded Age resort of Jekyll Island and the glorious old cotton port town of Beaufort, South Carolina. There is even an unforgettable Sunday brunch at the elegant, private Jekyll Island Club.

Price: $1,895 per person double occupancy Single Supplement: $475
